Abstract
The relationships between countries in West Asia and North Africa are significantly influenced by both domestic and international factors. The relations between Iran and Egypt have indeed experienced significant divergence over the past four decades, influenced by various domestic and international factors. This research aims to explore the role of the United States as an external actor in exacerbating tensions between the two nations. The central question guiding this investigation is how U.S. intervention has contributed to the deterioration of Iran-Egypt relations. The hypothesis posits that the United States has played a crucial role in shaping Egypt's political decisions, thereby perpetuating the strained relationship between the two countries. The research findings indicate that the United States, in an effort to control the spread of the Islamic Revolution in the Arab world—driven by the revolution's anti-imperialist stance and its open hostility toward Israel—sought to threaten Egypt and cut off economic aid. Additionally, the U.S. pressured Egypt to join the Arab NATO coalition, instilled fears regarding Iran's nuclear program, and promoted Iranophobia through various discursive actions aimed at ensuring security for Israel. As a result, the relationship between the two countries has remained divergent, hindering the establishment of a cohesive regional order.
