Peer Review Process

Peer Review Proccess

Crisis Studies of the Islamic World is committed to the highest standards of scholarly peer review. All manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer-review process to ensure the quality of their research methodology and argument.

Upon submission through the journal management system, the editorial team will conduct an initial screening for scope and compliance with formatting guidelines. This process takes up to one week. Authors must follow the Instructions to Authors carefully to expedite this initial check. Manuscripts that pass this screening stage will be assessed by the Editor-in-Chief.

The corresponding author will receive a confirmation of receipt, a manuscript reference number, and the name and email address of the assigned scientific editor. The manuscript will then be sent to at least two independent referees. A response may be expected no sooner than three weeks after submission.

Possible decisions are:

  • Accept
  • Minor Revisions
  • Major Revisions
  • Reject

If the decision is ‘revision’, authors must address the referees’ and editors’ comments thoroughly. A second round of review will follow. Reviewers are reminded weekly to complete their reports. If a reviewer does not respond after three weeks, the manuscript will be reassigned to a new reviewer.

Upon final acceptance, authors must provide the final version of the manuscript in appropriate file formats (text as a Word document and tables as Excel files; PDFs are not accepted). This should be sent to the Editor-in-Chief. Authors will be notified of their paper's publication schedule. One galley proof will be sent as a PDF to the corresponding author; it must be corrected and returned within two working days.

Based on the extent of revisions required and the authors' speed in addressing them, the entire process from submission to final acceptance typically takes approximately six months.

Authors must maintain the confidentiality of the peer review process and should not disclose their identity to reviewers, and vice versa. For instance, the manuscript should not contain any information that could lead to the identification of the authors by the reviewers (such as self-revealing details).

The review process is governed by the following guidelines:

  • If both reviewers recommend rejection, the manuscript will be rejected.
  • If both reviewers recommend major revision, the manuscript will be returned to the author for revision.
  • If one reviewer recommends major revision and the other recommends rejection, the manuscript will be sent to a third reviewer. The final decision will be based on the third reviewer's assessment, aligning with the options above.
  • When a revised manuscript is resubmitted, it will typically be sent back to the original reviewers for comparative assessment.
