Abstract
The overthrow of Assad in 2024, which ended more than five decades of rule by the Assad family, is considered a turning point in the contemporary history of Syria. This surprising event was the result of lightning attacks by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, which, after capturing the strategic cities of Aleppo and Homs, reached the Syrian capital Damascus and took control of the country. One of the key players in the Syrian crisis that played an important role in the overthrow of Assad is Qatar. Using a descriptive-analytical method and citing library sources, the present study seeks to answer the question of what is the role of Qatar in the overthrow of the Assad regime? In response to this question, the author, applying the theory of classical realism, tests the hypothesis that Qatar has played an active role in the process of overthrowing the Assad regime, with the aim of increasing its power and gaining maximum benefits, through interventionist policies and financial, military, political and media support for opposition groups, especially Hayat Tahrir al-Sham.
