Like other political systems, the Israeli regime constructed its nation-state by drawing on identity-forming elements. However, by invoking particular interpretations within the framework of Zionist ideology, it portrayed its nation-state as both exceptional and sacred. This conception, together with territorial expansionism, legitimized political violence—resulting in ethnic cleansing—on its own terms. The present study examines the theoretical foundations underlying this form of aggressive nation-state building. Its central question is: What relationship exists between the doctrines of Zionist ideology and aggressive nation-state building in the Israeli regime? The study hypothesizes that Zionist ideology, drawing on a distinctive combination of religious and ethnic identity-forming doctrines, contributed to an aggressive process of nation-state building in which territorial expansionism and political violence constituted two interconnected dimensions. To test this hypothesis, the study employs an integrated theoretical framework comprising ethno-cultural nationalism, Carl Schmitt's antagonistic conception of politics, and Giorgio Agamben's concept of homo sacer. The research draws on library sources, and the data are analyzed using a descriptive-analytical approach. The findings indicate that Zionist ideology, through the integration of religious and ethnic elements, contributed to the emergence of an aggressive form of nation-state building in the Israeli regime, in which territorial expansionism and political violence became established as its two principal components.
