The Legitimacy of the Islamic Government in the Political Thought of Allameh Mesbah Yazdi

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to study the legitimacy of the Islamic government in the political thought of Allameh Mesbah Yazdi. The research method was descriptive-analytical. The results showed that Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi in the type of relationship he established with the social and intellectual situation (internal and external), was able to discuss issues related to the purpose of creation, man, the need for government, law, legislator and its conditions, the law enforcer and its conditions, as well as the relationship between ethics and law and political thought. In this way, he was able to formulate his theory of the legitimacy of government and its origin. Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi refers to the theory of the authority of the divine order regarding the criterion of the legitimacy of the government. He believes that all those who believe in the existence of God consider God to be the owner and sultan (with the evolutionary dominion over the people), and if God is the creator of human beings, why does he not have the right to rule and judge? Based on rational and narrative arguments, he emphasizes the appointment of the Supreme Leader and his divine legitimacy during the absence of the Imam Masoom.
