Abstract

The Axis of Resistance is a network of formal and informal actors centered on the Islamic Republic of Iran in recent decades. It is characterized by resistance against hegemonic policies and a return to the intellectual-political capacities within the Islamic world, which are considered integral to its identity. Practically, in recent years, the Axis of Resistance has significantly influenced regional equations in favor of forces within the Islamic world in Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, and Iraq. In light of this overarching idea, the post-Arab Spring developments in Yemen highlighted the emergence of the Ansar Allah movement as a new element within the Axis of Resistance. Ideologically rooted in Zaydi Shia Islam, the movement has also provided a unique geopolitical position for the Axis of Resistance. Therefore, this article first seeks to reconstruct the intellectual and political context of the formation of the Ansar Allah movement and then examine its impact on the development of the Axis of Resistance. The findings of the study indicate that the movement is intellectually and politically influenced by various factors, including Zaydi Shia Islam, its proximity to the center of Wahhabism, the crisis of the collapse of the Mutawakkilite government, and the realization of the Islamic Revolution in Iran. Utilizing Yemen's intellectual-political and geographical capacities, the movement has contributed to the development of the Axis of Resistance in geopolitical dimensions, such as monitoring international waterways, influencing Saudi Arabia, and expanding security measures in Africa. Politically, it has confronted Wahhabism, promoted Islamic unity and interfaith reconciliation, disseminated anti-hegemonic and anti-Western thought, and extended the Axis of Resistance into the African continent from an intellectual perspective.
