In general, considering national identity as people`s awareness and feeling of belonging and loyalty to national community and its constituents and also as a key factor to shaping national unity and solidarity, it can be said that nowadays, in many societies including Iran, it has challenged by the extensive process of globalization. Hence, as the central question, the present paper addresses the ways that the above-mentioned transformation has been occurred and, moreover, the ways that Iranian state might be able to confront with challenges and prevent national identity bring in crisis. In this regard, the paper hypothesize that the globalization process, introducing instruments like Internet to the society, has led to weakening the national states’ traditional / conventional functions of identity- forming, to emergence of supranational and hybrid identities, and to prompting subnational and ethnic identities. Consequently, globalization has brought the crisis in national identity to countries, owing to having negative impact on people`s feeling of belonging to their national identity; like many others, Iran has faced up to such problem. Nevertheless, Iranian state might be able to overcome the crisis by making prudent decisions such as reasonable encounterance with the process of globalization, adapting the politics of concurrent ‘unity and plurality’. To explain these, the paper takes advantage of a descriptive- analytical approach.
